JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Social Development has conceded that it is legally incorrect to only pay organisations one quarter of their funding.

This after some NPOs say they haven’t received their monies since April last year.

The Gauteng Crisis Committee took Premier Panyaza Lesufi and the Social Development Department to Court after NGOs in the province did not receive money in the 2024/25 fiscal year.

The South Gauteng High court says despite three court orders dating from May last year, Gauteng is still struggling with compliance.

The matter has been postponed to Friday, when the Committee wants the government to disclose their full report to explain why there continue to be these funding delays.
