GQEBERHA - Nelson Mandela Bay beach has been closed after high levels of E. coli were detected in the water.
Brighton beach in Gqeberha was closed last Saturday after untreated sewage flowed into the sea.
But, some residents are still using the beach despite visible warning signs.
The municipality blames infrastructure vandalism for the situation.
Nelson Mandela Bay infrastructure and engineering director, Joseph Tsatsire, confirmed Brighton beach has been closed to protect public health.
He says the metro has numerous blue-status beaches and people should go to those to enjoy themselves.
