ETHEKWINI - Clean-up operations are continuing in KwaZulu-Natal following heavy downpours and flooding on Thursday night.
Disaster management teams remain on high alert as a level six warning for heavy rain stays in place.
Thami Ntuli, KZN Premier, spoke with eNCA about the current state of the province, saying, "the situation is dire in terms that it's continuing to rain. We've lost a life and I will be visiting the affected communities on Sunday."
"The issue of the infrastructure maintenance that was able to save some properties, and businesses in Pinetown, that the storm-water drains were working, though the rain was quite heavy."
Ntuli said the eThekwini Metro must take care of maintenance and infrastructure to ensure human lives are preserved through these extreme weather events.
He also called for residents to exercise caution during the heavy rains and avoid flooded rivers and roads.
