JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg's VIP protection policy has been declared unconstitutional.
The High Court found that the policy illegally extends benefits for senior officials.
As it stands, the policy allows for up to eight bodyguards for the mayor and multiple bodyguards for the speaker and other members of the mayoral committee.
It was adopted in March 2024.
The DA took the matter to court and has welcomed the ruling.
