Illegal mining | New court battle looming over Stilfontein standoff

JOHANNESBURG - Lawyers for Human Rights are contemplating going back to court to push for the provision of humanitarian relief for illegal miners at a Stilfontein mine shaft.

The Pretoria High Court recently dismissed a similar court application lodged by the Society for the Protection of Our Constitution.

WATCH: Operations continue in Stilfontein

Mametlwe Sebei from Lawyers for Human Rights says community members must be allowed to help with rescue efforts.

Authorities however are not budging on their stance that the miners will be arrested once they resurface and say this  has been reaffirmed by the High Court Judgment.
