Illegal immigrants and drunk drivers arrested in Ivory Park

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, led a crackdown on crime in Ivory Park.

Operation Shanela, the province’s ongoing effort to tackle criminal activity, targeted the township, in turn arresting over a dozen people.

Mthombeni says the operation netted 11 people for drunk driving and over 23 illegal immigrants.

The Commissioner says they also closed three liquor outlets.

The area’s crime stats paint a concerning picture.

Tembisa police station, once ranked third in serious crimes, now sits at 11th, while it remains the second worst in the country for contact crimes.
