GIYANI - Almost 40 pupils from a primary school in Ndhambi village outside Giyani, Limpopo have been rushed to hospital.
This is after the learners from Dzumeri Primary School are suspected to have drank milk and fallen ill.
This is the latest food poisoning incident to be reported in South Africa.
The crisis has left scores dead and hundreds more hospitalised countrywide.
There have been calls for the closure of spaza shops.
However, former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says that shutting them down will alienate small township businesses.
She says that this will drive more money to big business while sidelining the township economy.
Madonsela instead supports the inspection of spaza shops and the closure of delinquent ones.
Political analyst Harlan Cloete has called on the government to act urgently on the crisis.
He argues that President Cyril Ramaphosa's slow response is a clear indication of a lack of urgency.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshaveni has announced that the President will address the nation on the matter
It is unclear when Ramaphosa will speak and says that the government is working to resolve the crisis.
