Food safety | Buffalo City admits to teething problems

Registration process well underway

BUFFALO CITY - Authorities in the Buffalo City Metro say they are not mincing their words, and that spaza shops will remain closed if their owners are not complying with the law. 

But hundreds of owners -- particularly foreign nationals -- say they are heeding the call made by President Cyril Ramaphosa. 

But some say that the strict measures put in place by the government go against the spirit of Ubuntu.

Authorities say that while they are pleased with the huge turnout of business owners trying to register, teething problems remain.

They have reiterated that they are not unfairly targeting foreign nationals, but they're out to ensure that all spaza shop owners avoid putting people's lives in danger.
