eThekwini residents disgusted as strike enters new week

DURBAN - There’s no word yet on when the eThekwini strike will end.

The municipality has upped security for its staff, but there's no concrete plan on how to restore services fully.

Members of the Expanded Public Works Programme downed tools last week, halting refuse collection and sweeping services.

Residents are up in arms about the filth in the CBD.

The eThekwini Municipality has released a statement, saying it's been forced to reduce the number of public work programme beneficiaries because of ongoing government budget constraints.

It says the grant it received from the Public Works Department affected its ability to retain the beneficiaries.
