JOHANNESBURG - Eskom has synchronised Unit 2 of the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station to the national grid.
The unit contributes around 930 megawatts to the grid.
The synchronisation forms part of Eskom's plan to increase generating capacity to 2,500 megawatts by March 2025.

Unit 2 was taken offline to allow for the replacement of three steam generators, comprehensive inspections and refuelling activities.
Next, the National Nuclear Regulator will decide on whether to extend the unit's operational licence.
Koeberg has been in operation for 40 years and contributes five percent of the country's total electricity.
