JOHANNESBURG - Unit 6 of the Kusile Power station is now online.
It adds 800 megawatts to the national grid.
Eskom says this is a milestone in its quest to add 2,500 megawatts to the grid.
It says this is a major step toward completing one of its largest infrastructure projects.
The unit will undergo extensive testing and optimisation over the next six months.
Meanwhile, Eskom says Medupi's Unit 4 will see the return of 800 megawatts by the end of April.
Eskom implemented Stage 2 blackouts last week after the loss of five generating units.
