Education in crisis | MEC Chiloane threatens to arrest ‘hooligan’ parents

HAMMANSKRAAL - Education officials were conspicuous by their absence at a meeting between various stakeholders at Tsebe-Ntlha Primary School in Hammanskraal.

The gathering was meant to pave a way forward for the institution after two weeks of disrupted learning.

Some parents have kept their children away, questioning the return of the formerly suspended principal.

The official is accused of taking money from parents under false pretenses, among a host of other issues at the school.

Speaking at the school safety Imbizo in Krugersdorp on Saturday, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane had this to say about parents keeping their children from school:

“We are hoping for a hardline from police. As and when we open cases against particular parents, we expect them to be collected by vans.

"Once we start doing that, and it’s known that if you do this, you get arrested, it should become less and less,” Chiloane said.

Parents now plan to march to the education department’s offices.
