JOHANNESBURG - Five suspected cash-in-transit-robbers have been killed after exchanging fire with Eastern Cape police.
They had robbed a cash van near the town of MacLean in the early hours of Monday morning.
A deadly shoot-out ensued when police traced the suspects to a hideout later in the day.
"When they approached the house, the suspect started shooting at the police and then a shootout ensued," said Nomthetheleli Mene, Eastern Cape Police Commissioner.
"Following that, five suspects were fatally wounded and several firearms were recovered with magazines and ammunition, as well as the money that is suspected to have been robbed in Maclean town."
