DRC courts the U.S in attempts to secure its security

KINSHASA, DRC - President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Felix Tshisekedi is seeking assistance from the United States and President Donald Trump this amidst intensified fighting

A classified letter from the Africa-USA Business Council to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reveals Kinshasa's offer of its vast mineral wealth in exchange for military and diplomatic backing against the M23 rebels.

The M23 rebels currently control significant portions of Eastern DRC and are reportedly supported by the Rwandan government in their opposition to the DRC government.

Dr. Aaron Poynton, President of the Africa-USA Business Council, who penned the letter in February, told eNCA has described this deal as "mutually beneficial."

Speaking to eNCA, Poynton emphasised the DRC’s strategic importance stating that any major nation would see value in partnering with the resource-rich country.

He added that by choosing to collaborate with the U.S. instead of other countries, the DRC stands to benefit from investments that will directly uplift its people.
