CAPE TOWN - The communities of Bishop Lavis, Kalksteenfontein and Bonteheuwel took to the streets on Wednesday to demand that vacancies at Bishop Lavis Police Station be filled.
This after officers from the station were recently redeployed in other communities.
Bishop Lavis Police Station recorded the 12th highest number of contact crimes in the province in the third quarter of 2024/25,
And residents say the removal of LEAP officers from their communities has resulted in mass murders and increased gang violence.
During the release of the crime figures, Western Cape Community Safety MEC Anroux Marais promised to increase the number of officers on the ground to combat crime.
