Cosatu welcomes Zizi Kodwa’s resignation as ANC MP

JOHANNESBURG - Cosatu has welcomed the resignation of Zizi Kodwa as an ANC member of Parliament. 

The ANC says a letter from Kodwa was sent to Secretary General Fikile Mbalula.

The former Sports, Arts and Culture Minister is currently facing corruption charges.

He appeared in court this month for allegedly accepting R1.7-million in bribes from businessman and former EOH boss Jehan Mackay. 

Kodwa was deputy minister of State Security at the time these allegations emerged. 

The ANC's step-aside policy normally precludes anyone facing criminal charges from serving in leadership or government roles.

Cosatu says Kodwa should have never been sent to Parliament and the decision undermines the ANC's own step-aside resolution.
