JOHANNESBURG - The Constitutional Court ruled on Monday that former president Jacob Zuma is ineligible to be elected a member of the National Assembly in next week's general election.
The top court threw out Zuma's complaint against an electoral commission decision that a previous conviction for contempt prevents him from becoming an MP.
The court says according to Section 47 One E of the Constitution, Zuma will not be eligible to be a member of the National Assembly until five years after the completion of his sentence.
