JOHANNESBURG - Deputy Chief Justice Mandisa Maya is being interviewed for the top job in the judiciary today.
She will be grilled by the Judicial Service Commission.
It comes just a few months before Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s retirement in August.
That's when his 12-year non-renewable term as a Constitutional Court Justice ends.
It’s not the first time Justice Maya will be interviewed for the position of Chief Justice.
Two years ago, she was one of four candidates in the running for the position.
You will remember that the JSC actually recommended her for the position.
But, the President used his prerogative to appoint Zondo.
He later appointed Maya as the country's first female Deputy Chief Justice.
