JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Basic Education has released the final National Senior Certificate results for 2024, with a historic pass rate of 87.3 percent.
Minister Nosiviwe Gwarube emphasised that while the pass rate is important, it’s only a key indicator of progress.
Over 615,000 learners passed, the highest number in South Africa’s history.
The Free State is the best performing province, followed by Kwazulu-Natal, Gauteng, North West and the Western Cape.
Although the Northern Cape achieved the lowest pass rate, it saw the most improvement of all the provinces.
The Eastern Cape saw a 3.6 percent improvement, meeting the target set by the MEC of 85%.
All nine provinces showed an improvement, with all of them now sitting with a pass rate above 80 percent.
