2024 elections | IEC pleased with high voter turnout

JOHANNESBURG - Wednesday's election saw many South Africans stepping out in large numbers to cast their ballots.

The turnout is expected to exceed the previous poll in 2019 poll when 66 percent of registered voters took part, electoral commission chief Sy Mamabolo said.

"We are in for a higher turnout than we had in 2019, which is why it is the intention of the commission at this point to ensure that every voter who is on the queue is given an opportunity," he said.
