WATCH | African penguins waddling towards extinction

CAPE TOWN - The dapper African Penguin, always dressed to impress, has tragically waddled onto the 'critically endangered' list. 

With breeding pairs now below 10 000, this tuxedoed bird faces a bleak reality, shrinking food supplies caused by climate change and commercial fishing.

According to Penguin-Demic Nicky Stander from the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds said the species have been in danger since 2010 due to severe and continuous population decline. 

She says the penguins were then unlisted again in 2024 to critically endangered which is one step away from being extinct in the wild.

Without urgent action, these flippered friends could disappear in less than a decade,
