CAPE TOWN - Many children in South Africa need stem cell transplants to survive blood disorders, but few receive the treatment.

Public and private partnerships are being explored to expand access and improve survival rates.

Palesa Mokomele, Head of Community Engagement and Communications at DKMS Africa says there is a shortage of specialists in the country. 

She says, only 30% of patients are able to find matches within their own family which means 70% relay on a stranger.
