JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture released a list of artists and athletes who received COVID-19 funding.
The list has revealed that it is mostly artists who received funding.
This comes ahead of a Cabinet Lekgotla over the weekend.
Some artists staged sit-ins at the offices of departments complaining they were not getting the monies due to them.
The money was meant to compensate those who lost income when theaters and performance venues shut down due to COVID-19.
In 2020, the department announced a R150 million relief fund, meant to be shared by artists and athletes.
It was said the money disbursed would be capped at R20,000 per artist or company, but the list tells a different story as some received far more.
