CARNAVON - Government has underscored its mission to diversify South Africa’s tourist offering.
As part of World Tourism Day, bigwigs in the country’s tourism sector have launched the Astro-Tourism Strategy in Carnarvon in the Northern Cape.
Using the province’s innovation breakthroughs in astronomy, the platform aims to promote the region as an alternative to the country’s other tourist destinations.
Despite a slight drop in the number of international tourists visiting the Northern Cape, the province has seen a significant surge in domestic travelers.
More than 1.4 million people flocked to the region last year.
Tourism authorities believe the Astro-Tourism Strategy is just what the province needs to drive up these numbers even more.
