GQEBERHA - The National Sea Rescue Institute has bought a state-of-the-art vessel.
Rescue 6, as the new purpose built craft is known, was welcomed to its home station in Gqeberha this week.
The vessel is designed for rescue missions in harsh environments.
It can be deployed up to 50 nautical miles from land, and has a lifespan of at least 40 years.
This world-class search and rescue vessel can carry up to 23-survival and six crew members.
The NSRI has more of these craft on order as it replaces an ageing fleet.
