The play is a courageous story of every woman who has endured loss, suffered loneliness and experienced the chilling anxiety of waiting.

The late Winnie Mandela continues to be a complex figure to explore and her generous heart has become anchors for many women of all generations and identities, each seeing herself in her legacy.

The play director, Momo Motsunyane describes the Mother of the Nation saying, "Indeed, she did not die; she multiplied."

Motsunyane said, "It [the play] is based on the novel of the same title written by Professor Njabulo [Ndebele] and in it, he is trying to understand how a figure like Mama Winnie became almost vilified at the end of apartheid and at the turn of South Africa's democracy."

"Through the play, he's trying to understand how that came to be. How this complex figure was really on the floor, fighting for the liberation of our people suddenly taking a turn in what she represents, particularly by the time the TRC happened."

"In the play, he's trying to unpack and understand, how can we vilify a figure like this?"
