Eye Care Awareness Month | Preventing blindness through action and education

JOHANNESBURG - The 20th of September until the 17th of October 20th marks Eye Care Awareness Month, and this year we commemorated World Sight Day on the second Thursday of October. 

Unfortunately, many people remain unaware of these campaigns, which focus on educating communities about eye care and the importance of addressing visual disabilities.

Mahen Kannigan, an optometrist and owner of Art of Sight Optometrists in Craighall Park spoke to eNCA on this topic. 

Kannigan discussed the critical need for regular eye exams, the impact of social stigma surrounding eyewear, and how we can all work together to prevent avoidable blindness.
