CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Service set a record in December when they helped to deliver five babies in just 20 days.
The Mfuleni and Hout Bay Fire Stations had two births apiece, while the fifth was born during a callout in Gugulethu.
Over the festive season, firefighters also attended to 155 medical and trauma incidents, 297 car accidents and 124 pedestrian vehicle accidents.
While firefighting makes up the bulk of the workload, their training and expertise extends well beyond that.
In December alone, firefighters helped to deliver five babies at various fire stations.
