JOHANNESBURG - The months of June, July, August, September, and October have been the hottest months since the mid-1800s.

This is based on data from meteorological stations across the world.

The speed at which the earth is warming is accelerating at unprecedented levels, and record high greenhouse gas emissions are primarily to blame.

Scientists say the impacts of climate change will only worsen until we stop putting more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than can be removed by the planet.

Dr Christopher Trisos, Director of the Climate Risk Lab at UCT's African Climate and Development Initiative spoke to eNCA.
