JOHANNESBURG - Residents in North West and the Northern Cape, are warned against drinking water along the Vaal and Harts rivers.
This was after the cholera bacteria was detected at five water sites.
The Water and Sanitation Department has advised residents to steer clear of the rivers, while samples are being analysed.
The Vaal River is considered a crucial waterway, supplying Gauteng, Free State, Northwest and the Northern Cape.
Municipalities have also advised that water should be thoroughly boiled before consumption.
