WATCH | Treasury wants to increase tax alcohol

 

FRANSCHHOEK, WC - The National Treasury is proposing a tax increase on liquor, in an attempt to reduce alcohol abuse.

A WHO report showed that about 59% of South African alcohol consumers engaged in heavy episodic drinking.

The Winemakers Association has come out strongly against the proposed taxation and believes it will cripple the industry.

 

Meanwhile the CEO of Franschhoek Tourism. Ruth McCourt said increasing tax on alcohol will have significant impact on job creation.
