DURBAN - October is Transport Month and as government rolls out commemoration plans, many KwaZulu-Natal communities are scratching their heads over the situation.
This is because floods in April and May washed away vast tracts of road infrastructure – effectively stranding residents.
One community has appealed for help from the transport department so that they’ll also have something to celebrate this month.
The Mpumalanga Taxi Association says it’s feeling the pinch.
"We are requesting that the government intervene, this is the biggest main road in Hammarsdale," said Lucky Ngubeni.
"It meets with the N3 on the other side and the warehouses."

KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Sipho Hlomuka says money has been set aside to rebuild roads.
On Thursday, Hlomuka will meet Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula to deliver a report on how national government can help.
In the meantime, the provincial government is engaging different municipalities to rebuild infrastructure.
