Increased security ahead of BRICS summit

JOHANNESBURG - BRICS leaders and their delegations are set to gather in Sandton for the 15th Heads of State summit this Tuesday.

Police have already begun operations to ensure the perimeter surrounding the Sandton Convention Center is safe.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela says they have had to call off-duty officers for various operations.

China's President Xi Jinping, President Lula da Silva of Brazil, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate virtually.
