JOHANNESBURG - It has been a year since both the Finance Minister and Gauteng Premier said e-tolls will be scrapped.
The Premier's office says an intergovernmental committee has been set up to finalise details around the the scrapping of the unpopular system.
By mid-December, the provincial government is set to table a plan to switch off the gantries and pay off the outstanding debt.
Former Gauteng Transport MEC and now Finance MEC Jacob Mamabolo is adamant that e-tolls are obsolete.
However, it still remains unclear when they will be discontinued once and for all.
Some motorists are still getting monthly bills, and the view from many has always been clear e-tolls should be boycotted.
