JOHANNESBURG - While Dis-Chem has come under fire from various organisations, including Action SA leader Herman Mashaba, the Black Management Forum has welcomed the company's latest move.
This follows an internal letter sent by Dis-Chem CEO Ivan Saltzman.
In the leaked memo, Saltzman told management that Dis-Chem was placing a moratorium on the appointment of white staff in the company.
On Monday afternoon, Dis-Chem tweeted a note saying it regrets the wording and the tone of the internal memo that it says was erroneously widely shared.
BMF Acting President Esethu Mancotywa says that if companies have to comply with the transformation laws, then so be it.
"After two decades and few years of the establishment of the Employment Equity Act, significant strides have not been witnessed in getting black professionals in executive managerial levels," she said.
"A huge percentage of the white population is at top management and their counterparts are still not absorbed."
