Concerns on vaping among matric pupils have increased

JOHANNESBURG - A recent study conducted among some 5,500 middle-class high school pupils has found that more than one in four matriculants are vaping.

Three out of 10 respondents said they use their electronic smoking device, within an hour of waking and nearly a quarter cannot get through a school day without vaping.

Professor Richard van Zyl-Smit said the data is worrying.

"This is a completely new habit that has been taken up by scholars which they should never have done," he said.
