JOHANNESBURG - A jump in energy and food prices however hit the US last month, as progress in stabilising prices remained elusive.
On average, prices in December were up 2.9 percent compared with a year earlier.
Energy prices accounted for more than 40 percent of the rise in inflation.
Egg prices also shot up more than 36 percent compared with 2023, as a bout of bird flu hit supply and led to shortages.
South Africa has been recovering from similar adversity.
According to the Household Food Basket Index, a dozen eggs cost R32.81 cents last month, down 8 percent from December 2023.
