JOHANNESBURG - There’s some excitement around a recent announcement that Transnet has made it more attractive for new private operators to run on the tracks.

But the SOE says about R14-billion per year is still required to repair and maintain its six main corridors.
As a result of Transnet’s decline, most goods are transported by road, adding pressure to many routes and infrastructure.
So what about Transnet’s attempts to repair and turn around the situation?
