Sibanye-Stillwater signals 2,300 job cuts

JOHANNESBURG - Thousands of workers face losing their jobs at one of South Africa's biggest miners, Sibanye-Stillwater.

The company confirmed it will be entering into retrenchment consultations with organised labour.

The restructuring will affect its operations at the Kloof 4 shaft which is suffering ongoing losses.

The initiation of Section 189 consultations follows numerous unsuccessful attempts to address productivity.

The shaft also recently suffered significant damage which contributed to severe deterioration of output.

Over 580 contractors will also be impacted.
