Shoprite reveals South Africans shun delivery jobs

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's unemployment rate is one of the highest in the world.

Which is why it's surprising that South Africans are avoiding certain jobs.

Shoprite confirmed on Monday that only 23 percent of the drivers in their newly acquired Pingo delivery platform, are South Africans.

That means more than three quarters are foreign.

Shoprite says is that there is a high drop out rate among locals – in fact as high as 80 percent in its driving programs.

The spokesperson for the Department of Employment and Labour, Thobeka Magcai discussed this with eNCA.
