JOHANNESBURG - A supplier of hand sanitiser to the South African Police Service has been slapped with a R3.5-million fine for excessive pricing.
The Competition Tribunal found that BlueCollar Occupational Health overcharged the police to the amount of R9.8-million during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Tribunal described BlueCollar’s conduct as shocking, considering the social consequences during the pandemic.
The latest ruling is the second excessive pricing case successfully prosecuted by the Competition Commission.
The first related to Tsutsumani Business Enterprises, which supplied the SAPS with face masks in 2020.
Tsutsumani was fined R3.4-million. That company is currently appealing the ruling.
