STELLENBOSCH - South African Reserve Bank governor, Lesetja Kganyago, has been elected as the new chancellor of Stellenbosch University.
This follows the end of retied judge Edwin Cameron’s term in December 2024.
A chancellor is the ceremonial head of a university, and their duties include presiding over ceremonies and conferring degrees.
Stellenbosch University council chair, Nicky Newton-King, says Kganyago's exemplary leadership, vast experience and unwavering commitment to independence and excellence is inspiring.
Kganyago's term of office is five years, starting from January 24.
