JOHANNESBURG - Despite the recent heavy rains and challenges with energy supply, the agricultural sector is doing okay.
In 2020, the sector saw growth of just under 15 percent, while last year that figure was slightly lower at around 8 percent.
Wandile Sihlobo, chief economist at the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa, says there are areas of concern, but things are looking optimistic.
"When you drive around South Africa, it is visible that people are working the land. Some people have received more rain than they bargained for and that requires a bit of replanting," he said.
"Conditions are looking relatively positive regardless of the damage in some parts of the country that might have been caused by rains."
