SA assumes BRICS chairmanship

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa has assumed the BRICS chairmanship.

The bloc also includes Brazil, Russia, China and India.

This means the leaders of the other four members will be heading to the country in August.

Anil Sooklal, Ambassador-at-Large: Asia and BRICS in DIRCO, says the summit will also be open to other African countries.

Sooklal said the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war hasn't had an impact on the BRICS bloc.

He says the countries have discussed the conflict and jointly called for a diplomatic resolution.
