JOHANNESBURG - Rising fuel prices will ultimately impact on our food prices as food producers and the freight industry battle with high diesel prices.
The price of diesel has gone up by between 71 and 72 cents.
South Africa's food prices were up 14.4-percent year-on-year in March this year, the highest rate of food inflation since March 2009.
While food inflation has since eased to 12-percent, this is still well above target.
The agribusiness supply and value chains have absorbed higher input costs as a result, coupled with the energy crisis and infrastructure issues.
