Power cuts pain poultry producers

JOHANNESBURG - Rolling blackouts are increasing the price of poultry.

Farmers say already high input costs are rising due to the cost of generators and fuel.

However, there is some good news with inflation showing some signs of easing after December's peak.

Senior Agricultural Economist at FNB, Paul Makube says the entire value chain has been impacted.

"If you look at the value chain, the disruption in one area boomerangs to the rest," he says.

Makhube says the additional costs the producers have to bear goes into the value chain to the end consumer.
