Phases set for production and export of electric cars

JOHANNESBURG - With more people opting not to purchase new cars, the success of electric vehicles might hang in the balance.

This, as the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition lays out timelines for the rollout of the production and export of electric vehicles and related auto components.

Minister Ebrahim Patel was laying out the EV roadmap on Monday following cabinet's approval of the White Paper on EVs.

It aims to ensure South Africa becomes part of the global shift from internal combustion engines to new technology vehicles.
