Petrol price decrease likely in future, says economist

JOHANNESBURG - The petrol price is likely to drop in the next few months.

That's according to economist Dawie Roodt.

Both grades of petrol have gone up 59 cents a litre this month.

But Roodt says oil prices will come down, which will help.

That leaves the exchange rate as one of the only factors that could affect the petrol price.

"There are only three major things that affect the petrol price: Fuel levy, the exchange rate and international oil prices.

"The good news is that the international oil price has been drifting lower and I expect it to slowly get lower over the next couple of months," he said.

"Overall, chances are quite good that the petrol price will come down quite nicely over the next few months."
