JOHANNESBURG - A significant number of South Africans are now relying on online retailers to buy food and clothing.
A study released by World Wide Worx found that South Africa's online retail sector surged to R71-billion last year.
The study released in partnership with Mastercard, Peach Payments, and Ask Afrika, shows that Checkers 60, Woolworths Dash and Pick N Pay's ASAP have become the bread and butter for many e-shoppers.
This as the platforms become increasingly efficient and secure.
But retailers are also having to grapple with operational challenges.
These include payment failures and managing customer queries and complaints.
And, while customers want to spend money online, the report shows that over 50 percent of cards still decline.
But for those who have the funds, online shopping is a lot cheaper than shopping in store.
