JOHANNESBURG - Statistics South Africa has released the latest production and sales data for the mining and manufacturing sector.
Mining production decreased by nearly 2 percent year-on-year in September while mineral sales decreased quite significantly by more than 20 percent.
Manufacturing production decreased by more than 4 percent year-on-year, but sales increased.
Simphiwe Letlojane, Investment Strategist at Absa Investments, Stockbrokers and Portfolio Management, says the two sectors are important in elevating the country's economy.
"These two sectors do remain quite important for the economy, together they contribute around 20 percentof overall GDP from the production point of view."
